LITTLE ROCK – After 22 years as director of governmental affairs for the Arkansas Medical Society, H. Scott Smith, JD, stepped down on June 30. His legacy includes influential healthcare advocacy and legislative victories. Smith played a pivotal role in landmark initiatives, such as Any Willing Provider legislation, the Arkansas Clean Indoor Air Act, the Arkansas Trauma Act, tobacco tax legislation, and critical physician-focused reforms.
Over his career, he became a trusted advocate, respected not only in Arkansas but also on the national stage among medical advocacy professionals.
