Dining for Dollars
Former governor Jim Guy Tucker was one of more than 500 on hand for a dinner kicking off a fundraising campaign for UAMS in late January at the Peabody Hotel in downtown Little Rock.
The program is called "Campaign Imagine," and the goal is to raise $325 million by 2010. UAMS chancellor I. Dodd Wilson, MD, announced during the dinner that the campaign had already brought in more than $200 million.
The four-person steering committee for the campaign was represented by Debbie Walker, the daughter of Pat Walker and the late Willard Walker, northwest Arkansas philanthropists who have donated millions of dollars to UAMS and other causes around the state.
Dana Hof, who serves as director of special events for UAMS, helped organize the dinner and said after the event that the planning process took more than a year. "We've been working on it for some time now," she said.
The preparations showed. From the elaborate centerpieces of lilies suspended in water to the string section that played during the sumptuous meal, every detail was perfect.
