Fayetteville — Fayetteville Diagnostic Clinic, a MANA Clinic, is pleased to welcome Dr. Alexandra Diaz-Cruz, an internal medicine primary care physician, to its team of dedicated healthcare providers.
Dr. Diaz-Cruz is an Internal Medicine Primary Care physician with a strong commitment to preventive care, health equity, and compassionate, patient-centered medicine. Fluent in Spanish, she is passionate about ensuring every patient feels heard, respected, and supported throughout their healthcare journey.
Dr. Diaz-Cruz is a familiar face in the Arkansas medical community. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Spanish. She then completed the Honors Program in Underserved Primary Care at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, and an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Her outstanding academic and clinical achievements later earned her the prestigious Tricia Edstrom UAMS Northwest Award for Academic Excellence.
Throughout her journey, Dr. Diaz-Cruz has been a fierce advocate for community outreach, mentorship, and culturally competent healthcare. Fluent in Spanish, she has dedicated much of her leadership and volunteer experience to expanding healthcare access for underserved and Spanish-speaking populations.
While at the UAMS 12th Street Health and Wellness Center, she coordinated interpreter services, translated crucial patient communications, and successfully transitioned interpreting services to a virtual platform during the pandemic to ensure no patient was left behind. Her commitment to hands-on care also took her to West Chicago, where she participated in Street Medicine initiatives to deliver vital medical and wound care directly to transient populations.
Dr. Diaz-Cruz believes in addressing health at the root of the community. Her research background includes vital community-based data collection on diabetes, food insecurity, and childhood nutrition through the UAMS Institute for Community Health Innovation.
Dr. Diaz-Cruz’s care philosophy centers around compassion, trust, and understanding what makes life meaningful for each individual patient.
“I think of healthcare as an opportunity to keep people doing the things that matter to them; whether that is seeing their children/grandchildren grow up, hiking around the Buffalo River, or working to provide for their family,” said Diaz-Cruz. “I want my patients to leave the office knowing I am in their corner at all times.”
