A Week in the Life of Dr. Ethan Schock
Time, time, time.
It all comes down to time for Dr. Ethan Schock, an orthopedic surgeon with Arkansas Specialty Orthopaedics in Little Rock.
Schock is one of a dozen surgeons working at the clinic, but still maintains a busy practice.
The Little Rock native, who went to medical school in Michigan and trained in Salt Lake City, Utah, sees on average 40 patients in a half-day of clinic.
If it is a full day of surgery, he'll do 10 procedures; he'll do two or three in a half day.
Schock could see somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 patients in a regular work week. He'll normally take call at least one weekend a month — usually two weekends — and will also take call during the week and spend a half a day in clinic at Cabot.
While Schock sees most everything, he has a special interest in shoulders and knees.
Even though he stays busy, Schock also counsels his patients on time management.
"It just takes time," Schock said of the rehabilitation process. "If someone has an ACL done, it takes six months. I can't speed that up."
Schock's weekly schedule
usually looks like this:

WednesdayMostly spent in clinic and one or two surgeries if they can be squeezed in
