UAMS Receives Grants

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, and Rep. Vic Snyder announced recently that UAMS had been awarded two grants totaling $502,385 from the Department of Health and Human Services.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases through the Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation Research program awarded a grant in the amount of $289,385 to UAMS. The grant will go toward detection, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal infection.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded another grant for $213,000 through the Kidney Diseases, Urology and Hematology Research program. The grant will be used for the study of protection against diabetic complications.

All three have a connection back to UAMS. Snyder received his medical degree there as did Lincoln's husband, Dr. Steve Lincoln. Pryor is currently featured in a UAMS advertising campaign.
