Arkansas Urology’s Newest Clinic Offers Most Advanced Technology

Arkansas Urology has opened its newest clinic in North Little Rock with state-of-the-art technology and diagnostic and ancillary equipment to treat a variety of urological conditions.

The 15,000-square-foot facility features eight exam rooms, two procedure rooms and two cystoscopy rooms. CT imaging, microwave therapy, video urodynamics and diagnostic ultrasound are among the new services offered on-site.

Arkansas Urology’s first North Little Rock facility opened in 2000 at the Springhill Medical Office Building. The new facility began seeing patients in March.

Drs. Ron Kuhn and Edwin Diaz are the lead physicians at the new North Little Rock facility at 4200 Stockton Drive. Dr. John David Terrell will join the practice in August 2011.

 

UAMS Names New Chief Information Officer

David L. Miller, a nationally recognized health care information technology leader with more than 30 years experience in the industry, has been named vice chancellor and chief information officer for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

 Miller served in leadership roles with several international and national firms, including PricewaterhouseCoopers and Capgemini, Ernst and Young. For the last five years he has led information technology programs first at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill., and then at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

He is a Fellow with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and a Certified Healthcare Chief Information Officer with the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).

He holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill.

 

Shaw-Devine Joins UAMS Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

Allison Shaw-Devine, M.D., has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as an assistant professor within the College of Medicine’s Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.

Shaw-Devine has an extensive background at UAMS, where she graduated medical school in 1995 and completed an Internal Medicine residency, including her last year as chief resident, in 1999. She also was a Fellow of Cardiovascular Diseases at UAMS from 1999 to 2002.

She was most recently served as medical director and solo practioner at Arkansas Cardiac Care, P.C. since 2005.

Shaw-Devine is a board member and former president of the American Heart Association’s central Arkansas affiliate and has served as the organization’s co-chair of the Go Red for Women drive.

 

Dr. Emad T. Aboud joins Arkansas Neuroscience Institute

Emad T. Aboud, M.D., has joined the Arkansas Neuroscience Institute at St. Vincent (ANI) as director of ANI’s Micro-Neurosurgical Laboratory. In this position, he will oversee all lab-related training and research.

Dr. Aboud is widely known for his contributions to neurosurgical training through the Aboud Model for Surgical Training, a device that allows trainees to practice surgical approaches to the brain and other parts of the body using various lifelike simulations.

Most recently an assistant professor for research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Dr. Aboud has served as a director and co-director of numerous national and international neurosurgical educational courses. In addition, he has published multiple articles and book chapters in neurosurgical literature.

 

Baptist Health Becomes First Hospital In State To Launch Robotic Fluorescence Imaging Technology In Cancer Surgery

 Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, recognized as a leader in robotic surgery in Arkansas, was the first hospital in the state to acquire the new robotic fluorescence technology and is currently one of only 13 hospitals in the country to have it since it became available in February.

Fluorescence imaging technology, which is used in the da Vinci surgical system, offers the capability of providing real-time, image-guided identification of key anatomical landmarks using near-infrared technology. Fluorescence imaging offers surgeons superior visualization, enhanced dexterity, and greater precision compared to traditional surgical approaches. This is a major technological advancement for the hospital where the robotic surgical platform is currently used for minimally-invasive surgery across multiple specialties.

Fluorescence imaging is the latest technology launched in certain cancer surgery and Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock will offer this minimally invasive program in the continuing commitment to safety and quality.

 

Mitchell Williams Opens Washington, D.C. Office

In an effort to expand its national insurance practice focus in the areas of health care regulation, legislation and reform, Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C. announces the formal opening of a new Washington, D.C. office.

Mitchell Williams’ managing director, Harry Hamlin, views Washington, D.C. as the next logical step in building the firm’s growing national presence. The office will be led by attorney Randi Reichel, previously an independent consultant with a national practice whose clients included America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). Reichel joined the firm in June of last year.

A number of the firm’s current and former attorneys have experience working in Washington, D.C. in government service, private practice, and for national trade associations.

The Capitol Hill District location at 601 Pennsylvania Ave. is the fifth office for the firm, joining four additional office locations in Arkansas, Texas and New York.

 

Price Holmes Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

North Arkansas Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Price Holmes, CRNA, MSA to their staff.

 Mr. Holmes comes to Harrison from White River Medical Center in Batesville, AR where he served as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist since 2004.

Mr. Holmes attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1993. He was Junior Class President and Senior Class President at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. He went on to attend Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia in Madison, TN where he received his Masters of Science degree in Nurse Anesthesia in 1997.

Mr. Holmes holds the following licenses, professional affiliations, and certifications; Arkansas Advanced Practice Nurse – CRNA License, Arkansas Registered Nurse License, American Association of Nurses Anesthetists member, Arkansas Association of Nurses Anesthetists member, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Certification, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Certification.

Mr. Holmes has been married to LeAnn Evans Holmes since 1984. They enjoy two children; Mary Elizabeth, who is a Senior Elementary Education Major at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Price Holmes, III, who is a Red-Shirted Sophomore on the Razorbacks Football Team. He is #84 and is a member of the Southeastern Conference All Academic Team. Mr. Holmes enjoys duck hunting and fishing as well as supporting the Razorbacks.

 

Sparks Doctor Among America’s Most Compassionate

A Sparks Health System physician is being recognized as one of America’s most compassionate doctors.

Sparks pediatrician Dr. Louay Nassri has been named a 2010 Most Compassionate Doctor and, for the third straight year, he has received the Patients’ Choice award.  The honors are given based on reviews written by patients and tabulated by MDx Medical, Inc.

Dr. Nassri is among a small percentage of physicians across the country who have been awarded this distinction. Of the 720,000 active physicians in the United States, less than 3% were awarded the Most Compassionate Doctor honor by their patients in 2010.

A specialist in the field of pediatric pulmonology, Dr. Nassri was recently recognized among the Best Doctors in America in 2009-2010. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and has served as governor of the organization representing the state of Arkansas for the past six years.

Dr. Nassri was born and raised in Damascus, Syria, where he attended medical school. He has been practicing medicine in Fort Smith since 1980 and is a part of the team at Sparks Pediatrics at 1501 Waldron Road in Fort Smith.

 

Sparks Health System CEO Recognized For Leadership

Sparks Health System is proud to announce our Chief Executive Officer is once again being honored for her leadership.

Melody Trimble has received Health Management Associates’ prestigious President’s Leadership Award for her commitment to selflessness, servant leadership and focus on quality patient care.

Trimble, a long-time associate at Health Management, was named CEO of Sparks Health System at the time of its acquisition by the company in late 2009. Sparks Regional Medical Center has flourished under her direction.

Prior to arriving in Fort Smith, Trimble served as CEO at Venice Regional Medical Center in Venice, Florida, for nearly five years. She has been with Health Management since June of 1991, serving at multiple hospitals in roles from Clinical Director of Emergency Services to Chief Nursing Officer to Chief Operating Officer. She has a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky and a BS in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University.  In 2010, Trimble was awarded Chief Executive Officer of the Year by Health Management Associates.

The President’s Leadership Award was established last year as a tribute to the late Brad Jones, division president at Health Management. A valued member of the company’s executive team, Jones distinguished himself through his belief that quality patient care in each of his hospitals would lead naturally to business success. He was a key figure in the growth of the company during his tenure and was committed to mentoring executives at all levels.
